Countdown:7days before NY

I received the WomenNC (Women for North Carolina) fellowship in December of 2009 to attend the Beijing+15 Conference. Under the Commission on the Status of Women and WomenNC, I am attending the conference in New York at the United Nations from February 26-March 6 of 2010!

What is Beijing+15? It is a 15-year review of the original Beijing Conference of 1995. This conference was established to magnify CEDAW (Convention of the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women). The United States is 1 of 7 countries in the whole world who has not ratified CEDAW; 196 countries have ratified the treaty and fully support it. CEDAW is simply a treaty that insures women's rights and equality. It was adopted in 1979 and enacted in 1981. It has 30 articles.

Now that I have given you a background, let me explain my journey.I have been doing research pertaining to the status of women's health in the United States with a special focus on progression since 1995. Here in North Carolina I am focusing on a program that has contributed majorly to women's breast cancer health, Pretty in Pink Foundation. I presented my findings at Interact of Raleigh, NC this past Monday, February 15th. My journey is now taking me to New York next Friday! Throughout my trip I will upload photos, commentary, and massive updates. So stay tuned! Learn more about CEDAW, CSW, WomenNC, and Pretty in Pink Foundation online. Just type it into Google.

There is a series of activities on 2010 CSW meetings such as online discussion on Beijing Platform for Action. You are welcome to join the discussion on behalf of WomenNC to learn and to contribute to the discussion.

Beijing at 15 Online Discussions:
The Inter-Agency Network on Women and Gender Equality (IANWGE) is coordinating moderated online discussions on the Critical Areas of Concern of the Beijing Platform for Action. These discussions will contribute to the 15-year Review of the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action at CSW 54.
